LionAid comes to the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight Zoo is pleased to be participating in LionAid's "Where Have all the Lions Gone?" campaign.

Thes is a UK-wide campaign raising awareness and funds about the plight of the African Lion, whose numbers have declined sharply over the last fifty years. LionAid estimate that in this time 90% of lions have disappeared.

To mark this disturbing figure, LionAid will be travelling across the country shrouding lion statues in 11 cities. Their message is that "if we lose this iconic species in the wild through complacency, we should also lose the right to use their symbols, images, and representations."

The Isle of Wight Zoo is pleased to support this campaign and as a result we will be covering the enclosures of Casper our white lion for 90 minutes on the 23rd March. We will also be informing visitors of why this campign is running and the danger the African Lion is in.

To raise funds, LionAid will be holding a Gala Dinner at the Priory Bay Hotel in Seaview. Places are £65 per person, or £500 for a table of ten. Information and Booking for the LionAid Gala Dinner.
