A New Home for some of our Meller's Ducks

Three of our Meller's ducks were taken to Norfolk today to live in a non-breeding flock. This is great news for us because it means we will be able to welcome a new breeding male for our female. Fingers crossed we can look forwards to ducklings!

Our original pair of Meller's ducks bred last year, and their offspring are now fully-grown. In order to keep bloodlines healthy zoos cooperate in order to introduce new animals to each other through breeding programmes. This is particularly important for the ducks as they are an endangered species.

Did you know...?

Our ducks are being loaned to us, as all Meller's ducks are officially owned by the government of Madagascar.
