Seasonal cafe assistants

We are currently recruiting Cafe Assistants to join our team at the Isle of Wight Zoo. These are part-time seasonal positions (subject to a trial period) and may include school holidays, bank holidays, weekends and occasional evening work for special events.
Café Assistants are responsible for maintaining high standards of customer service and food hygiene. Duties are mainly front-of-house involving taking orders, taking payments and serving. These roles will be based either in our ice-cream hut or the main zoo café. You will need to be/have:
• A friendly and welcoming attitude
• Flexible approach to working hours
• Customer service experience is beneficial but not essential
• Good interpersonal skills
• Trustworthy and security conscious
• Numerate and computer Literate, EPOS experience will help but is not essential
• Good communication skills
• Team player
• Ability to work under pressure and with conflicting priorities
• Food hygiene certificate an advantage but not essential
Salary: National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage for age group.
References required.
Due to the location and working hours own transport beneficial.

Animal carer position

We are currently recruiting two Animal Carers to join our team at the Isle of Wight Zoo. The first position is a full time permanent position (subject to a trial period) working a 5 day week from Sunday until Thursday. An interest in reptiles, big cats and primates is essential. Previous experience preferred, but will consider recently qualified applicants.
The second position is a permanent cover position (subject to a trial period) working Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Previous experience preferred, but will consider recently qualified applicants.
Animal Carers are responsible for maintaining high standards of husbandry and care for the animals assigned to them. Animal Carers are expected to follow set husbandry standards and are expected to be involved in all aspects of care for animals including enrichment, training, weighing of animals along with their normal duties. Excellent communication skills are required in order to contribute towards our education programme.
A current driving license will be an advantage.

The Isle of Wight Zoo is one of the Island's premier attractions and is a member of BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums). We aim for the highest standards of customer service and animal welfare to ensure that we continue to maintain and progress our reputation within the tourism and zoological industry.

The zoo's operations are divided into the following departments and the zoo employs 15 to 40 staff fluctuating throughout the year depending on the demands of the business.
